Tooth Structure

May 22, 2013

Teeth are composed of two major structures, the crown and root. The crown of the tooth which is the visible portion seen is composed of enamel located on the crown of the tooth. The enamel is strong and composed of rods that are closely packed but can still be damaged by excessive acidity and also bruxing. Bruxing occurs by aggressive brushing and grinding teeth causing fractures to occur. Dentin is below the enamel and is responsible for sensitivity. The pulp chamber contains connective tissues and nerve endings. The root canal contains nerve endings and blood vessels providing life to the tooth by entering the root end opening, otherwise known as the apex.
